Tips for TeleStudents

If joining a TeleClass is a new experience for you, don't worry it's very easy. These tips will help you get the most out of your class.

  • If you have call waiting, please disable it before calling the TeleClass. Dial *70. Then wait for the dial tone and call the number to join the class.
  • Turn off cell phones, fax machines, beepers, pagers, and anything else that might ring during the call.
  • Do not use a speakerphone. It may cause noise or an echo on the call and can be disruptive to others.
  • Use a landline - the TeleClass line has severe problems when someone makes a computer/internet based call. Cell phones also cause static.
  • Do not use a portable phone. Many portable phones bring static and interference to the TeleClass lines.
  • Do not put us on hold. Many offices have on-hold music and everyone in the TeleClass will be able to hear it. This can greatly disrupt the class. If you have to leave the call, hang up and call back as soon as you can rejoin.
  • Please take this call where you will not be interrupted. Put your children, pets and/or staff in another room.
  • Do not call early. You may call a few minutes late.
  • Please don't call the TeleClass number you've been given at any other time than your scheduled class time. There is no one "there" at the TeleClass number.
  • Don't say anything until you are welcomed by the TeleClass Leader. Everyone hears a little beep when someone joins, so they will know you're there.
  • When entering the conversation, first introduce yourself. Then continue with your comments.
  • Allow each speaker to finish his or her comments before offering yours. Do not interrupt while another person is talking.
